Back in 2012 -When Tamar Sukhiashvili, a teacher from the village Kakabeti, was told she was fired, it came as a surprise. The previous day, the school’s director had complimented her on her qualified work.

The reason for her firing turned out to be that she held views supportive of the opposition.

Closing Schools In Hartford’s North End Would Violate Civil Rights

    hartford-school-closing-101716

I read this article today and was not surprised by the alleged decisions; I was no longer emotionally hurt by a lack of parental involvement – face it if the parents made their voice heard this conversation between those that have the power and those that have the power would go in an entirely different direction.

The Greater Hartford branch of the NAACP is calling on city leaders to reject proposals that would close North End schools, saying the plans violate the civil rights of black and Latino students in the city.

Back in 1955 the Montgomery Bus Boycott was a protest against segregated public facilities in Alabama, was led by Martin Luther King Jr. and lasted for 381 days. 60 years later are we still talking about the civil rights of our children’s education?! Furthermore, Hispanics or Latinos are not a race but an ethnic identification, like Italian American, Irish American, Greek American, German American. Have you ever asked why the distinction?!

“We are deeply concerned and disturbed by the actions of the Hartford Board of Education, for systematically divesting in schools located in the north-end; leaving our students and families ill-equipped to compete educationally,” Ansari wrote.

In a written response to Ansari’s letter, Hartford Board of Education Chairman Richard Wareing wrote that the proposals are merely the suggestions of a consultant and do not represent any decision-making by the board.

In an article written on April 28, 2015, the Hartford Current posted this statement: HARTFORD — A 3-mile swath of North Hartford has been named a Federal Promise Zone, a designation that local leaders hope will spark an infusion of manpower and money to one of the capital city’s neediest areas. The Federal Government provided grant money (aka Promise Zone) to the tune of  $2,000,000  eligible applicants must be State, local, or tribal government entity, represented by a Chief Executive, such as a governor, mayor, or other elected leader, or the head of a State, local, or tribal agency.

“We are deeply concerned and disturbed by the actions of the Hartford Board of Education, for systematically divesting in schools located in the north-end; leaving our students and families ill-equipped to compete educationally,” Ansari wrote.

Where are the parents, who let the school system get to this state, what agency is angry with what organization for not sharing in the wealth of our failing school system?

Breast cancer screening can save lives. That’s why the Affordable Care Act makes breast cancer screening and counseling free. All health plans must cover these benefits at no cost to you.More than 40,000 women die from breast cancer every year. It’s the second leading cause of women’s death from cancer. But if you find breast cancer at an early stage, you have a 98% chance of surviving. That’s the point of mammograms — they are screening tests that help find cancer when it is too small to feel.Your odds of long-term survival drop to 25% if your doctor finds your breast cancer late when it has spread outside your breast. So it’s worth your time to take advantage of these breast cancer prevention measures that are free under the Affordable Care Act.

    Losses: Trump’s potential exposure

Bill Cosby’s image as “America’s Dad” was tarnished after dozens of women accused the former TV star of drugging and sexually assaulting them. Cosby’s defense team was dealt a blow Wednesday when a judge said a sexual assault case against the embattled comedian could go forward. In late April 2016, rumors began to circulate online holding that Republican presidential Donald Trump had either been sued over, or arrested for, raping a teenaged girl. One of the earliest versions of the rumor was published on 2 May 2016 by the Winning Democrats web site, which reported that woman using the name Katie Johnson had named Trump and billionaire Jeffrey Epstein in a $100 million lawsuit, accusing them of having solicited sex acts from her at sex parties held at the Manhattan homes of Epstein and Trump back in 1994 (when Johnson was just 13 years old):
    Andrea Constand
More than 50 women have accused Cosby of sexual misconduct, however, he has only been criminally charged in one case. The 78-year-old comedian was arrested in December and charged with aggravated indecent assault over the alleged drugging and sexual assault of Andrea Constand, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office. Constand, a former Temple University employee, said she was drugged with multiple pills and then assaulted at Cosby’s Pennsylvania home in 2004.
The suit, first reported by the Real Deal, accuses Trump and Epstein of luring the anonymous plaintiff and other young women to four parties at Epstein’s so-called Wexner Mansion at 9 East 71st Street. Epstein allegedly lured the plaintiff, identified in the suit only as Jane Doe, with promises of a modeling career and cash.
    Judy Huth
Judy Huth claims Cosby sexually assaulted her at the Playboy Mansion in 1974 when she was 15 years old, her lawyer Gloria Allred told TIME on Thursday. Huth alleges that Cosby gave her alcohol and then molested her in a bedroom suite, according to a December 2014 court filing. Cosby, who was first deposed in the case in October 2015, was ordered on Tuesday to give a second deposition in Huth’s civil lawsuit, Allred said. Allred has 29 clients who allege they are victims of Cosby, but Huth is the only one who has sued the entertainer.
Another anonymous woman, identified in additional testimony as Tiffany Doe, corroborates Jane’s allegations, testifying that she met Epstein at Port Authority, where he hired her to recruit other young girls for his parties. Trump had known Epstein for seven years in 1994 when he attended the parties at Wexner, according to the suit. He also allegedly knew that the plaintiff was 13 years old.

    Janice Dickinson
Model and reality TV personality Janice Dickinson is suing Cosby for defamation in California. Last month, the California Courts of Appeal ruled that Dickinson cannot depose Cosby until she has proven that she has sufficient evidence under California law to move forward with her defamation claim, Cosby’s lawyer Monique Pressley said in a statement. Dickinson said Cosby drugged and raped her in 1982 in Lake Tahoe, but she did not tell police for fear of retaliation, according to Reuters.

    Kristina Ruehli
Kristina Ruehli, 72, of New Hampshire, filed a defamation lawsuit against Cosby last November in federal court in Massachusetts, according to the New York Times. Ruehli says Cosby falsely accused her of lying when she came forward last year and said he raped her in 1965 at his Los Angeles home.

    Brande: “Yes.”

Trump: “It must be a pretty picture, you dropping to your knees.”

    Dropped Cases

Chloe Goins, a former model who said Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her at the Playboy Mansion in 2008, ditched her civil lawsuit against him, the AP reported Tuesday. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office had declined to file criminal charges in the case. Goins, 25, was the youngest and most recent of Cosby’s accusers, according to USA Today.

Rosie O’Donnell is disgusting — both inside and out. If you take a look at her, she’s a slob. How does she even get on television? If I were running The View, I’d fire Rosie. But it’s not the chubbiness — Rosie is a very unattractive person, both inside and out.

  • How we can start winning the war against cancer?

    062e604051dee8553e9cb1652df458b7b50e6497_2880x1620

How do we win the war against Cancer when the state’s insurance commissioner writes provisions for cancer medicine and care in its State Health and Insurance Policies; which means the insurance company not only has to pay the claim but if that is true then why would there be a push to stop a cash cow?

For example, if there was a state requirement for Macy’s to have a “Cancer Day Sale” only for Cancer Patients, Macy’s would/could ensure that the “Cancer Day Sale” would only occur when markup was at 2000%.

    Just a #Concerned thought.

  • WHERE IS YOUR FAITH?

    WHERE IS YOUR FAITH?

As I sat at the BusStop one hot sunny Friday afternoon, a gentlemen walked up to me and said, “Do you know Christ?”.  I said of course I do, who doesn’t.  I was annoyed at this young man who sat down next me uninvited and began to ask me questions that were particularly none of his business.

You see it was Friday, and I had a long week of rising early in the morning to drop my infant daughter off at the babysitter, walking four blocks to catch the Bus, which would take me down the hill the train station.  There I waited for the train to Westport; I would get off the train and wait for the Bus to take to my place of employment.  This trip would have taken me a whopping 35 minutes if was driving, however, using mass transportation it took me 2 hours.

On this day as I waited for the Bus on my return trip to take me home, when a young man decides this day he wanted to play questions and answers.  As he talks about who Jesus is and tells me things, I already know – or I should say, I’ve heard, I get more annoyed as the time goes on.  Finally, I thank him for the information I refuse to take the “track” that he seems determined to give me, and I walk away.  I think to myself, I’m going to walk up the hill in all this heat – forget about the Bus, but I’m not going home.

What was I feeling that day, tired, annoyed, guilty, and most assuredly full of shame for my behavior and my current condition at that moment?  I decided I was going to relieve my pain all by myself.  This song reminds me of that day when a Christian tried to encourage me at a time when I lost whatever faith I had, nor I had fully understood how the enemy would pull you back into a situation you once claimed deliverance.

It would be several years later before I would get on Bus and begin to develop a relationship with God.  What I do know is that my friend is in trouble, he knows the Bus exists but he has not met the Driver.

gclef2 men were talking, and they had gotten into a conversation

And the backslider was complaining because everything had gone wrong
The Christian was trying to encourage him
And then the conversation went something like this
Cause sometimes no matter how strong you’ve been in the faith
Things will go wrong for you
I just wanna leave this with you tonight
This is what they were saying
    Say you’ve been sick
    Just folk having a conversation
The Christian said, tell me about it

  • No refuge could save the hireling and slave

No refuge could save the hireling and slave

    National Anthem

Just a month after the British had burned the White House during the height of the War of 1812, Key was aboard a British vessel negotiating the release of a friend who was being held prisoner. During Key’s time aboard the vessel, the British commenced an attack on Fort McHenry, and the pair was not allowed to leave. So Key and his friend watched from the ship as the British bombarded Fort McHenry.

There are historians (notably Robin Blackburn, author of The Overthrow of Colonial Slavery, 1776-1848, and Alan Taylor, author of “American Blacks in the War of 1812”), who have indeed read the stanza as glorying in the Americans’ defeat of the Corps of Colonial Marines, one of two units of black slaves recruited between 1808 and 1816 to fight for the British on the promise of gaining their freedom. Like so many of his compatriots, Francis Scott Key, the wealthy American lawyer who wrote “The Star-Spangled Banner” in the wake of the Battle of Fort McHenry on 14 September 1814, was a slaveholder who believed blacks to be “a distinct and inferior race of people, which all experience proves to be the greatest evil that afflicts a community.” It goes without saying that Key did not have the enslaved black population of America in mind when he penned the words “land of the free.” It would be logical to assume, as well, that he might have harbored a special resentment toward African Americans who fought against the United States on behalf of the King.

No refuge could save the hireling and slave Let’s break this down by definition:

    Refuge – A condition of being safe or sheltered;

Hireling – A person employed to undertake menial work

Slave – A person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them

A slave by definition is very different from a Hireling

    Claudette Colvin

Rosa Parks is well-known for her refusal to give up her seat to a white passenger on a public bus in Montgomery, Ala., in December 1955.

Claudette Colvin was just 15 when she refused to give up her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama. It was nine months before Rosa Parks’ act of defiance in 1955.  But Parks’ civil rights protest did have a precedent: Fifteen-year-old Claudette Colvin, a student at a black high school in Montgomery, had refused to move from her bus seat nine months earlier. However, Colvin is not nearly as well-known, and certainly not as celebrated, as Parks.

“[The bus driver said], ‘Give me those seats,’” Colvin recalled. “Three of the girls got up and moved. But I remained seated.”

Colvin said she drew her strength from African-American abolitionists she had just learned about in school.

    Who are the Americans

Let’s be clear; folks came to this place called New Britain raped, plundered and killed the inhabitant (Native Individuals) and claimed property.  Then the grandfathers of the new land now known as America came and tried kill some of the people who left Britain, they lost and went back home but not without maintaining a great deal of authority and huge percentage tax of the dollars made here in this new land. For example – the Boston Tea Party happened as a result of “taxation without representation”, yet the cause is more complex than that. The American colonists believed Britain was unfairly taxing them to pay for expenses incurred during the French and Indian War. Additionally, colonists believed Parliament did not have the right to tax them because the American colonies were not represented in Parliament.

With a that said it still amazes me that black folk think this is their land and they have any rights to anything other than what is not needed by the folks who own “…this land is NOT your land.”  We still perpetuate the Rosa Parks story as if Claudette never existed. Which brings me to another point, the same way we dismiss Claudette who was too black, too pregnant and not married enough – we embrace this behavior today in 2016 as the commenter asked Cornell, “why don’t you use 2016” – well there is it.  We still look down of folks who have not come out of the projects; we shun folks who are not part of our cults, and we even shut our family members out when folks of another seem to embrace us.

Last note:  If your new found friendship with an elitist group embraces you if they are “true”,  they will embrace all of you, your illegitimate brother and sisters, jail-bound nephews, drug addicted aunts and uncles, holier than thou religious freaks, and the “plano” simple family member who could care less about degrees and dollars! But you see that won’t happen especially when  #office and #wealth become the gods of a people, and the most unworthy and unfit most aspire to the former, and fraud becomes the highway to the latter, the land will reek with falsehood and sweat #lies and chicane. (Albert Pike)

    Good Lesson (A True Story)

    making-time-for-god

    Good Lesson

    (A true story)

At the prodding of my friends, I am writing this story.  My name is Mildred Honor. I am a former elementary school Music Teacher from Des Moines, Iowa.

I have always supplemented my income by Teaching Piano Lessons … something I have done for over 30 years. During those years, I found that children have many levels of musical ability, and even though I have never had the prodigy, I have taught some very talented students. However, I have also had my share of what I call ‘Musically Challenged Pupils.

One such pupil was Robby. Robby was 11 years old when his Mother (a Single Mom) dropped him off for his first Piano Lesson.

I prefer that students (especially boys) begin at an earlier age, which I explained to Robby.  But Robby said that it had always been his Mother’s dream to hear him play the piano, so I took him as a student.

At the end of each weekly Lesson he would always say ‘My Mom’s going to hear me play someday.’  But to me, it seemed hopeless; he just did not have any Inborn Ability. I only knew his Mother from a distance as she dropped Robby off or waited in her aged car to pick him up.  She always waved and smiled, but never dropped in.

Then one day Robby stopped coming for his Lessons.  I thought about calling him, but assumed that because of his lack of Ability he had decided to pursue something else.  I was also glad that he had stopped coming. He was a bad advertisement for my teaching!

Several weeks later I mailed a flyer recital to the students’ homes. To my surprise, Robby (who had received a flyer) asked if he could be in the recital. I told him that the recital was for current pupils and that because he had dropped out, he really did not qualify.

He told me that his Mother had been sick and unable to take him to his piano lessons, but that he had been practicing.  ‘Please Miss Honor, I’ve just got to Play,’ he insisted. I don’t know what led me to allow him to play in the recital – perhaps it was his insistence or maybe something inside of me saying that it would be all right.

The night of the recital came and the high school gymnasium was packed with parents, relatives and friends. I put Robby last in the program, just before I was to come up and thank all the students and play a finishing piece. I thought that any damage he might do would come at the end of the program and I could always salvage his poor performance through my ‘Curtain Closer’.

Well, the Recital went off without a Hitch, the Students had been practicing and it showed.  Then Robby came up on the stage. His clothes were wrinkled and his Hair looked as though he had run an egg beater through it. ‘Why wasn’t he dressed up like the other students?’ I thought.  ‘Why didn’t his Mother at least make him comb his Hair for this Special Night?’

Robby pulled out the piano bench, and I was surprised when he announced that he had chosen to play Mozart’s Concerto No.21 in C Major.  I was not prepared for what I heard next.   His fingers were light on the keys; they even danced nimbly on the Ivories.  He went from Pianissimo to Fortissimo, from Allegro to Virtuoso; his Suspended Chords that Mozart demands were magnificent!  Never had I heard Mozart played so well by anyone his age.

After six and a half minutes, he ended in a Grand Crescendo, and everyone was on their feet in Wild Applause!!!  Overcome and in Tears, I ran up on stage and put my arms around Robby in Joy.

‘I have never heard you play like that Robby, how did you do it?’  Through the Microphone Robby explained:  ‘Well, Miss Honor, Remember I told you that my Mom was sick?   Well, she actually had Cancer and Passed Away this Morning.  And well… she was Born Deaf, so tonight was the first time she had ever heard me Play, and I wanted to make it Special.’

There wasn’t a Dry Eye in the house that evening.  As People from Social Services led Robby from the stage to be placed in to Foster Care, I noticed that even their Eyes were red and Puffy.  I thought to myself then how much Richer my Life had been for taking Robby as my Pupil.

No, I have never had a Prodigy, but that night I became a Prodigy … of Robby. He was the Teacher and I was the Pupil, for he had taught me the meaning of Perseverance and Love and Believing in Yourself; and may be even taking a chance on someone and you didn’t know why.

Robby was killed years later in the senseless bombing of the Alfred P. Murray Federal Building in Oklahoma City in April, 1995.
