Georgia Judge strikes down state ban on abortions past 6 weeks into pregnancy

A Georgia judge on Monday struck down the state’s abortion law, which took effect in 2022 and effectively prohibited abortions beyond about six weeks of pregnancy.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney wrote in his order that the law violates Georgia’s Constitution, finding that “liberty in Georgia includes in its meaning, in its protections, and in its bundle of rights the power of a woman to control her own body, to decide what happens to it and in it, and to reject state interference with her healthcare choices.”

When the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022 and ended a national right to abortion, it opened the door for state bans. Thirteen states now bar abortion at all stages of pregnancy, with some exceptions. Georgia was one of four where bans begin after about the first six weeks of pregnancy — often before women realize they’re pregnant.

McBurney’s ruling would allow abortions through at least 20 weeks of pregnancy.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): Purpose and Need

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a medical procedure that facilitates conception through the manual combination of sperm and eggs outside the body. Here’s a look at its main purposes and the need for such treatments:

Purpose of IVF

  1. Infertility Treatment: IVF is primarily used for couples facing difficulties in conceiving naturally due to a variety of reasons such as age, health issues, or unexplained infertility.
  2. Genetic Testing: IVF allows for Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT), enabling the identification of genetic disorders in embryos before implantation.
  3. Same-Sex Couples and Single Parents: IVF provides options for same-sex couples and single individuals to conceive using donor sperm or eggs.
  4. Fallopian Tube Issues: Women with blocked or damaged fallopian tubes can benefit from IVF, as fertilization occurs outside of the body.
  5. Endometriosis: For women suffering from endometriosis, IVF may bypass the obstacles presented by the condition, thereby improving chances of conception.
  6. Severe Male Infertility: IVF can be an effective solution for male infertility issues, including low sperm count or poor sperm motility, particularly when combined with Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).

Need for IVF

  1. Increasing Infertility Rates: Factors such as delayed childbearing, lifestyle changes, and environmental influences have contributed to rising infertility rates, creating a need for assisted reproductive technologies like IVF.
  2. Advancements in Technology: Ongoing improvements in reproductive technology, embryo culture, and genetic screening have made IVF a more accessible and effective option for many couples.
  3. Family Planning: IVF allows couples to take control over their reproductive timeline, offering the possibility of conception later in life when natural fertility may decline.
  4. Inheritable Diseases: For couples at risk of passing on genetic conditions, IVF with genetic screening offers a way to conceive healthy children.
  5. Supportive Psychological Option: The process of IVF can sometimes provide emotional reassurance and hope for couples facing infertility challenges, allowing them to pursue their family-building goals actively.

Conclusion

IVF serves as a vital reproductive technology that offers hope and solutions for individuals and couples facing various fertility challenges. It not only addresses infertility but also provides options for those with specific medical or genetic concerns.

South Carolina

Amari Marsh, a student from South Carolina State University, faced a traumatic experience after losing her pregnancy in March 2023. During her second trimester, she gave birth unexpectedly at her apartment. Despite her shock and confusion, Marsh was later charged with murder/homicide by child abuse. This case highlights the broader issues of reproductive rights, disparities in health care, and pregnancy criminalization, particularly for Black women.

Marsh’s legal ordeal lasted over a year. During this period, she spent 22 days in jail. She was also placed under house arrest. In August 2024, she was cleared of all charges by a grand jury. Her story underscores the contentious debate around reproductive rights. This debate intensified after the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision. The decision allowed states to impose stricter abortion laws. Marsh’s experience also draws attention to the high stakes of upcoming elections. Voters will decide on abortion-related ballot initiatives in several states.

Despite her ordeal, Marsh continues to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. She aims to help other women in similar situations. Her

Georgia Mom, 28, Dies of ‘Preventable’ Infection After Being Denied Life-Saving Procedure Due to State’s Abortion Laws

A Georgia woman tragically passed away. Her death followed a 20-hour delay in her medical treatment. This was a consequence of the state’s stringent anti-abortion laws.

In August 2022, Amber Nicole Thurman, aged 28, embarked on a journey to North Carolina. She was seeking an abortion—a choice unavailable in her home state due to Georgia’s newly enacted six-week abortion ban. This law followed the landmark reversal of Roe v. Wade. According to Mother Jones, this cruel twist of fate forced Thurman, a devoted mother and medical assistant, to look elsewhere. She needed to find other care.

At the North Carolina clinic, she was given the necessary medications, mifepristone and misoprostol, designed to end the pregnancy. She took the pills back home, hopeful for a resolution. However, within a few days, things took a dire turn. She experienced a rare but serious complication where not all the fetal tissue was expelled.

She showed up at Piedmont Henry Hospital in need of a routine procedure to clear it from her uterus. The procedure is called a dilation and curettage, or D&C.

But just that summer, her state had made performing the procedure a felony, with few exceptions. Any doctor who violated the new Georgia law could be prosecuted and face up to a decade in prison.

The Cleveland Clinic warns that retained tissue can lead to infections. These infections might severely damage reproductive organs. They could even escalate to life-threatening sepsis if left untreated.

Virginia

Abortion after birth

A newly proposed bill in the Virginia legislature aims to relax restrictions on third-trimester abortions. It also seeks to permit second-trimester abortions outside of hospitals. Governor Ralph Northam, a Democrat, sparked controversy with his remarks on how such late-term procedures could be conducted. Presently, Virginia law mandates that for third-trimester abortions, a doctor and two consulting physicians must agree. They must determine that continuing the pregnancy would likely cause the woman’s death. They must also determine if it would irreparably harm her mental or physical health. The bill was introduced by Democrat Kathy Tran in the Virginia House of Delegates. It would require only one doctor’s determination that the pregnancy endangers the woman’s life or health. Additionally, the bill proposes to remove the requirement for second-trimester abortions to be performed in state-licensed hospitals. With Republicans holding a slim majority in the House of Delegates, the bill’s passage appears improbable in the near future. It was tabled following a 5-3 subcommittee vote on Monday. Supporters of the Virginia bill argue it is necessary to safeguard women’s health. They compare it to a recently enacted New York law.

“When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of obviously the mother, with the consent of the physicians, more than one physician, by the way,” Northam said. “And it’s done in cases where there amy be severe deformities, there may be a fetus that’s non-viable. So in this particular example, if a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother. So I think this was really blown out of proportion.”

#JeanSchmidt – State Representative Jean Schmidt is currently serving her first term as State Representative for the 65th #Ohio house district, which includes northwestern Clermont County, specifically parts of #Loveland and Milford, all of #Newtonsville and #Owensville and #Goshen, Miami, #Stonelick, Union and Wayne townships.

She said pregnancy from rape is actually a chance for a woman to raise a child, send them to live with a family member or put them up for adoption. That hypothetical child, she argued, could someday cure cancer.

Texas

Texas The State Consumed by the Spirit of Hate & A Heartbeat

The Disease

Trisomy 13, also called Patau syndrome, is a chromosomal condition associated with severe intellectual disability and physical abnormalities in many parts of the body. Individuals with trisomy 13 often have heart defects, brain or spinal cord abnormalities, very small or poorly developed eyes (microphthalmia), extra fingers or toes, an opening in the lip (a cleft lip) with or without an opening in the roof of the mouth (a cleft palate), and weak muscle tone (hypotonia). Due to the presence of several life-threatening medical problems, many infants with trisomy 13 die within their first days…

The Results of The Test

That is not what the baby in Texas was diagnosed with, the baby was diagnosed with Trisomy 18…”Last week, Kate Cox, 20 weeks pregnant and a mother of two, received the worst news a person can get: her baby had a fatal condition known as Trisomy 18. The baby has no chance of survival, but under Texas law, there are only two options available to Cox: a vaginal delivery, or a C-section. Either option would risk her life or her ability to have children in the future. Because of her two prior C-sections, Cox’s doctors advised her she is at a high risk for a uterine rupture if she has an induced labor; if she had a third C-section, it would increase the chances that she is unable to carry a future pregnancy to term. On Tuesday, Cox’s lawyers filed an emergency lawsuit, asking the court to temporarily block the state’s bans so Cox could obtain an abortion.”

Conditions

Babies with trisomy 18 are often born very small and frail. They typically have many serious health problems and physical defects, including: Cleft palate Clenched fists with overlapping fingers that are hard to straighten Defects of the lungs, kidneys, and stomach/intestines Deformed feet (called “rocker-bottom feet” because they’re shaped like the bottom of a rocking chair) Feeding problems Heart defects, including a hole between the heart’s upper (atrial septal defect) or lower (ventricular septal defect) chambers Low-set ears Severe developmental delays Chest deformity Slowed growth Small head (microcephaly) Small jaw (micrognathia) Weak cry.

Corrupt

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Thursday threatened to prosecute any doctors involved in providing an emergency abortion to a woman, hours after she won a court order allowing her to obtain one for medical necessity.

Paxton said in a letter that the order by District Court Judge Maya Guerra Gamble in Austin did not shield doctors from prosecution under all of Texas’s abortion laws, and that the woman, Kate Cox, had not shown she qualified for the medical exception to the state’s abortion ban.

Abortion is a medical procedure that terminates a pregnancy, resulting in the removal or expulsion of the embryo or fetus from the uterus. It can be performed through various methods, including medication (known as the abortion pill) or a surgical procedure. The legality and availability of abortion vary across different countries and regions, and regulations surrounding abortion can be subject to ongoing debates and controversies. It is considered a sensitive and personal topic, and individual beliefs and circumstances may influence one’s perspective on the matter.

The Texas law does not make exceptions for rape or incest. It does permit abortions for health reasons, but the exceptions are narrowly drawn, allowing a termination only if the pregnancy could endanger the mother’s life or lead to “substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function. About 70 percent of abortions in Texas in 2019 were provided to women of color, according to the Guttmacher Institute.

Texas requires minors to obtain permission from a parent or guardian to gain access to abortion care. Some minors must go to court to do so, adding to the delays, said Rosann Mariappuram, executive director of Jane’s Due Process in Austin, Texas, which helps teenagers get abortions.

Kamyon Conner, the executive director of the Texas Equal Access Fund, which helps low-income women pay for abortions, said she was particularly concerned about the new law’s potential impact on Black women in Texas, who already face high maternal mortality rates.

Understanding Stillbirth

Stillbirth refers to the loss of a baby before or during delivery. It is a devastating experience for parents, as they have to cope with the loss of their child. Stillbirth can occur due to various reasons, including fetal abnormalities, placental problems, maternal health conditions, infections, or unexplained causes. The loss of a baby through stillbirth can be emotionally and physically challenging for parents and their families.

As I watched her lay there feeling extremly helpless, knowing my daughter was had to deliver a baby that was stillborn. She was quiet but I could feel the weight of her heart ever before I left my home to get to the hospital. As I arrived at the hospital, I then felt a sense of urgency and could not get to her room fast enough. I’m not going to share her whole story – I would be remiss if at this point of the story I anger I feel towards the #GOP and a bunch of f%*&^(g men who can’t deliver mail to the correct address have decided that they (NON PHYSICIANS/OR EVEN HOLD A DEGREE) will not only dictate what we as women should or should not do with our babies requires GREAT RESTRAINT.

Remember the scenario of the little 13 old girl raped would be forced to have the baby even some ice-cold women agree with this bullshit. I could only wish I was at the baby-making age and some stranger tried to arrest me and/or my doctor who by the way apparently is about. as weak as my tiny toe.

Can You Guess What This Is?

“I swear by Apollo the physician, and Aesculapius the surgeon, likewise Hygeia and Panacea, and call all the gods and goddesses to witness, that I will observe and keep this underwritten oath, to the utmost of my power and judgment. I will reverence my master who taught me the art. Equally with my parents, will I allow him things necessary for his support, and will consider his sons as brothers. I will teach them my art without reward or agreement; and I will impart all my acquirement, instructions, and whatever I know, to my master’s children, as to my own; and likewise, to all my pupils, who shall bind and tie themselves by a professional oath, but to no one else. With regard to healing the sick, I will devise and order for them the best diet, according to my judgment and means; and I will take care that they suffer no hurt or damage. Nor shall any man’s entreaty prevail upon me to administer poison to anyone; neither will I counsel any man to do so. Moreover, I will give no sort of medicine to any pregnant woman, with a view to destroy the child. Further, I will comport myself and use my knowledge in a godly manner. I will not cut for the stone but will commit that affair entirely to the surgeons. Whatsoever house I may enter, my visit shall be for the convenience and advantage of the patient; and I will willingly refrain from doing any injury or wrong from falsehood, and (in an especial manner) from acts of an amorous nature, whatever may be the rank of those who it may be my duty to cure, whether mistress or servant, bond or free. Whatever, in the course of my practice, I may see or hear (even when not invited), whatever I may happen to obtain knowledge of, if it be not proper to repeat it, I will keep sacred and secret within my own breast. If I faithfully observe this oath, may I thrive and prosper in my fortune and profession, and live in the estimation of posterity; or on breach thereof, may the reverse be my fate!”

Murder

Yes from the bible thumpers/religious zealotts who reference one of the commandants Thou shalt not kill. Exodus:14. Lets remember we are no longer beholden to the law – we aew under the dispensation of grace.

In the book of Matthew, Jesus teaches about the commandment “You shall not murder” (Matthew 5:21). Jesus expands upon this commandment by explaining that it is not only physical acts of murder that are wrong, but also the attitudes and intentions of the heart.

The Dispensation of Grace

In Christian theology, the phrase “dispensation of grace” refers to the belief that after Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection, humanity entered a new era or period characterized by God’s grace and forgiveness. This concept is based on the understanding that Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross atoned for humanity’s sins, allowing believers to receive salvation through faith.

The idea of the dispensation of grace is rooted in the teachings of the Apostle Paul, particularly in his letters to the early Christian communities. Paul emphasized that salvation is a gift of grace from God, not something that can be earned through human efforts or adherence to religious laws. According to Paul, the law of the Old Testament, which included the Ten Commandments and other religious commandments, was unable to save humanity from sin. However, through Jesus’ sacrifice, God’s grace is made available to all who believe in Him.

The dispensation of grace is often contrasted with the previous dispensation known as the “dispensation of the law,” which is associated with the Old Testament period of Israel’s history. This earlier era was characterized by the Mosaic Law, and adherence to its commandments was seen as necessary for righteousness and salvation.

In the dispensation of grace, believers are no longer under the strict observance of the Mosaic Law. Instead, they are called to live in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ, guided by the principles of love, faith, and grace. This understanding of God’s grace is central to many Christian denominations and influences their beliefs about salvation, forgiveness, and the relationship between faith and works.

It is important to note that interpretations of theology and religious doctrines may vary among different Christian traditions, and individual beliefs can also differ. If you have specific questions or would like to explore this topic further, I recommend seeking guidance from a trusted religious leader or studying reputable theological resources.

Coping with Grief and Support

The grief experienced by parents after stillbirth is profound and unique. It is essential for individuals affected by stillbirth to have access to appropriate support systems to navigate through their grief and healing process. Many hospitals and healthcare providers offer counseling services, support groups, or resources specifically designed for those who have experienced stillbirth. Family and friends can also provide a valuable network of support during this difficult time.

Honoring the Memory

Parents often find solace in finding ways to commemorate and honor the memory of their stillborn baby. Each family’s preferences may vary, but some common ways to remember and honor the baby include creating memory boxes, writing letters or journals, planting a memorial tree or garden, participating in remembrance walks or events, or engaging in acts of kindness in the baby’s name. These actions can serve as a way to keep the baby’s memory alive and provide comfort to grieving parents.

Seeking Professional Guidance

In addition to emotional support, it is crucial for parents to receive appropriate medical care and guidance following a stillbirth. Healthcare professionals can provide information about the potential causes of stillbirth, offer genetic counseling if necessary, and help parents make informed decisions about future pregnancies.

Remember, if you or someone you know is experiencing the loss of a stillborn baby, please reach out to healthcare professionals, support groups, or counseling services for guidance and support. Grief is a deeply personal journey that takes time, but with the right resources, healing is possible.
